Censorship

In one of my other classes this semester we learned all about censorship. Censorship is when a book is challenged because it is said to not be appropriate for the library. As I found this topic interesting I decided to research what are some of the most commonly banned books in schools. Something that stood out to me was that a great majority of banned books have to do with transgender individuals. An example of this would be I Am Jazz by Jazz Jennings. This is so sad to me because today so many individuals are transgender. To me reading something like this is solely informational. Parents though have a right to choose what their children can and cannot learn about. In addition to this I saw multiple books that are banned today that were read to me when I was in high school such as To Kill a Mocking Bird and The Giver. These particular books were books I remember reading for English class. It is crazy to me the multitude of different reasons people will come up with for why they don't want their children reading particular books.
